Managing assets on a grand scale

EDF Energy has purchased software to manage electricity consumption inventories for 2 million street lights from Suffolk based Wheatley Associates, whose solutions are used throughout the Utility Industry.

Tony Harris of EDF Energy commented: “We have placed this contract to calculate the consumption of every street light in East Anglia, London and the South East - that’s about 500 Gigawatts of electricity for 4,000 customers from the smallest Parish Councils & Resident Associations to the largest Local Authorities & Highways Agency."

Wheatley Associates supply solutions to manage over half the UK’s 6 million street lights and some 17 million electricity & gas meters in the UK.

EDF Energy distributes electricity to almost 7.8 million homes and businesses across London, the East of England and the South East. EDF Energy is a key element of the EDF Group, a company that operates in 24 countries and serves 46.7 million customers across the globe.

UPDATE - Jan 2005...

EDF recently installed Wheatley Associates UMSIPS Street lighting software with some 6m street lights in its inventory. Tony Harris of Edf continues the story.

“Within the first 6 months of operation comparison from the 2 systems has already assisted in recovering around 8 million units of backdated Settlements and Duos with re-occurring benefits in excess of 7 million units per year”... “These benefits to date already demonstrate clear flexibility of using UMSIPS in conjunction with MPRS for the good of the competitive market in general.“
