OnStream adopts JUMBO Electricity
14 Sep, 2006
OnStream, the gas and electricity metering and meter reading services operator, has purchased Wheatley Associates' JUMBO (Joint Utilities Metering Business Operation) electricity metering system to support its industrial and commercial Automated Meter Reading (AMR) initiative.
JUMBO is currently used by eight of the UK's major electricity metering companies and Wheatley Associates currently manage 75% of the UK's electricity meters. The system will complement other Wheatley Associates products already used by National Grid group.
AMR is the term given to a system that provides meter readings automatically. The AMR device can either be built into a meter, or can exist as a stand alone device connected to an existing unit.
Colin Shoesmith, Managing Director National Grid Metering commented: "Our electricity AMR product is a must-have for businesses who want accurate data across multi-sites when they need it. Our national footprint means we can offer this to suppliers as one central provider without any headaches. JUMBO further strengthens our ability to lead in this area."
John Wheatley, Managing Director Wheatley Associates Ltd added: "Smart electricity metering solutions are going to have a massive impact on metering businesses and consumers alike in the near future, suddenly everybody is going to want one. We are ready to support this innovative market with our advanced asset management solutions."
